About Us
We are a 17 member local who have been serving the people of
Rye since 1937. Originally hired to provide the fire department
with a staff of drivers, our job has evolved with the growing
demands and needs of the community. As the population and demographics
of Rye have changed over the year our department has been dispatched
on an increasing number of alarms.
In the history of the career
staff there have been 36 members with 17 currently employed
by the City of Rye. Our first career
firefighter was hired in 1937, and our two most recent hirings
were made in 2003.
In order to become a professional firefighter
in Rye our members are required to successfully complete the
13 week Career Training
Academy given by the State of New York. We are also required
to maintain a specified amount of annual training.
